Excel file used to calculate the metric section properties of AASHTO Type IV girder. Calculated properties are the following:

  • Height
  • Gross cross-sectional area
  • Distance from the top of cross-section to the centroid (c top)
  • Distance from the bottom of cross-section to the centroid (c bottom)
  • Area moment of inertia
  • Bottom section modulus
  • Top section modulus



  • Excel file used to calculate the unfactored moment and shear forces due to the self-weight of an AASHTO Type IV girder, deck and biteminous wearing surfaces. The thickness of biteminous wearing surfaces is taken as 65 mm, deck is taken as 200 mm. Weight of the barrier walls is ignored. The calculations are based on the values given in CSA S6-14 rev. 17.




    This Excel file was used to calculate the initial and service stresses experienced by an AASHTO Type IV girder. The girder is divided into small elements and for each element a stress value is calculated. This excel file can be modified for different girders with different strand profiles. Allowable stress limits can also be changed based on code. It can also be modified to show the parts in tension in blue, compression in red.
